How Clay Team Building Workshops Are Transforming Workplace Connection and Wellbeing
Groups engage with unique team building workshops designed to create fun learning environments.
After more than 23 years designing and delivering workshops for organisations of all kinds, from leadership off-sites and graduate schemes to conference breakout sessions and culture transformation programmes, something unexpected has happened.
My new Clay Series team building workshops, are landing differently.
Not just because they’re more creative than workshops I’ve developed before, and not just because they’re memorable but because working with clay seems to unlock something deeply human. Of which I can attest!
Teams leave calmer, more connected, more reflective and the conversations they have become more open. People slow down. And in a world of constant notifications, pressure, and performance, that experience feels increasingly rare and so incredibly valuable.
I set out to develop a different kind of team building workshop
Traditional team building activities often focus on competition, energy, or problem solving.
Clay, however, invites something else entirely.
These workshops are designed to help teams reconnect through creativity, mindfulness, collaboration, and shared experience. Participants work with clay using simple guided exercises that encourage curiosity, reflection, communication, and calm… and a lot of fun!
No artistic experience is needed. In fact, the workshops work best when people let go of perfection and simply enjoy the process of making something with their hands.
The result is an experience that feels authentic, grounding, and genuinely memorable.
And what we’re finding is that there are vicariously many benefits of clay workshops for teams. Increasingly, organisations are recognising that workplace wellbeing and high performance are deeply connected. Both are high on the agenda for many of my corporate clients.
Working with clay naturally supports many of the things modern teams need most:
Reduced stress and mental overload
Improved communication and psychological safety
Greater creativity and problem solving
Stronger interpersonal connection
A sense of achievement and play
Many participants describe the workshops as “surprisingly calming” and “the first time I’ve properly switched off in months.”
That’s part of what makes clay such a powerful medium for leadership retreats, away days, and wellbeing programmes. They are perfect for leadership off-sites, conference break-out sessions, and wellbeing programmes.
The Clay Series workshops are now being booked for:
Leadership off-sites
Team away days
Corporate wellbeing programmes
Graduate schemes
Conference breakouts
Culture transformation initiatives
Charity and nonprofit team events
Creative strategy days
Each session is tailored to the organisation and can explore themes such as communication, resilience, identity, teamwork, creativity, values, and connection.
Because the workshops are tactile and experiential, they often create conversations and insights that traditional meeting-room sessions simply don’t.
I’ve run business workshops for hundreds of organisations all over the world including Legal & General, Audi, Specsavers, Pfizer.
Why Does Creativity Matter at Work?
Creativity isn’t just about art.
It’s about thinking differently, communicating openly, adapting to change, and feeling psychologically safe enough to contribute ideas.
When teams spend time creating together, especially in a calm, non-judgemental environment, barriers soften. Hierarchies disappear. People connect more naturally.
Clay is uniquely powerful because it engages both mind and body. It slows people down. It requires attention. And in doing so, it helps people become more present with themselves and each other.
That’s why these workshops are being rated more highly than almost anything I’ve delivered before.
But this is team building that also gives back…
One of the most meaningful parts of the Clay Series is that the workshops are also helping charities do important work.
The project is built around the belief that business can create positive social impact while helping people feel more connected, creative, and human at work - a core part of my application to become a BCorp business. Each workshop directly benefits a charity.
